Janvier 2013, la communauté HackYourPhD se crée autour de la thématique de l’Open Science. Quelques mois plus tard, l’idée est lancée de réaliser un web documentaire afin de mieux comprendre ce qu’est l’Open Science et d’aller à la rencontre de ces acteurs. Le 31 mai 2013, une campagne de crowdfunding (financement participatif) est lancée. Le voyage HackYourPhD aux States (http://hackyourphd.org/USA/) a été un projet d’investigation à la croisée de la recherche, du design, de l’entreprenariat et du hacking (de doctorat).
Pendant plus de deux mois, j’ai sillonné les Etats-Unis en avion, voiture et bus. Vous trouverez dans ce livre 9 portraits d’acteurs de la génération Open Science sélectionnés sur un total de plus de 55 interviews réalisées pendant ce voyage. Chaque ville visitée a aussi été l’occasion de découvrir des espaces de recherche innovants (biohackerspaces, laboratoires ouverts, lieu art-science etc..) et une ambiance propre à chaque ville. Un bref aperçu vous en sera aussi donné dans ce livre.
Le parcours détaillé de ce voyage, les rencontres et les lieux explorés se retrouve sur le carnet de bord interactif HackYourPhD aux States. Si vous souhaitez approfondir une des thématiques abordées, vous trouverez dans le livre les liens pour accéder aux billets publiés tout au long du voyage, ainsi qu’aux cartes postales numériques écrites pour le site Educpros et aux nombreuses photos des lieux visités.

Le livre HackYourPhd aux States « Portraits de jeunes chercheurs de la génération #Open Science » est né des échanges entre Mathieu Rouault et Célya Gruson-Daniel. Mathieu Rouault, créateur de @docteo_net et @speak_science et co-fondateur de @Spescimen a réalisé la vidéo de présentation de la campagne de crowdfunding HackYourPhD aux States. Il a proposé l’idée de ce livre pour mettre en avant des portraits de doctorants, un des public clef des initiatives qu’il a créées.
Ce livre a été rédigé majoritairement par Célya Gruson-Daniel avec l’aide de précieux relecteurs/relectrices (Mathieu Rouault, Elyane Daniel). La mise en page a été faite par Jean-François Cauche puis par Raphaël Himpe, collaborateur de BStream, sous la coordination de Amaury Van Espen. Raphael a également ajouté l’ensemble du graphisme.
Les photos ont été prises par Célya Gruson-Daniel, à part la photo de couverture qui a été prise par Anthony Delanoix.La traduction en anglais a été réalisée par François-Asperti Boursin, Rodrigue Asseu. Les photos et l’ensemble du contenu de l’ebook sous sous licence Creative Commons CC-BY-SA.

Discover our book : “Profiles of young researchers of the Open Science generation”
January 2013, HackYourPhD community was created around the theme of Open Science. Few months later, we developed the idea of a web documentary in order to better understand what is Open Science, and encounter its players.
May 31, 2013, a campaign of crowdfunding was launched. In 29 days, This journey of HackYourPhD in the US was a project of investigation at the crossroad of research, design, entrepreneurship and hacking (PhD). This journey came from a desire to understand the transformations experienced in openness of science and research practices, and the willingness to share them to the greatest number.
During these two months, Célya Gruson-Daniel cruised the USA by plane, car and bus. You will find, in this book, 9 portraits of players of the Open Science generation selected on a total of 55 interviews realized during this journey. In each city, several innovative spaces of research (biohackerspaces, open laboratories, art-science spaces etc…) were visited. A glimpse of it will also be offered to you in this book.

The book HackYourPhD in the US “Profiles of young researchers of the Open Science generation” was born from the discussion between Mathieu Rouault et Célya Gruson-Daniel.
Mathieu Rouault, creator of @docteo_net and @speak_science and co-fondateur of @ Spescimen. He directed the video presentation of the crowdfunding campaign HackYourPhD States. He proposed the idea of this book to highlight profiles of PhD students, one of the key public of his initiatives.
This book was mostly written by Célya Gruson-Daniel with the help of precious reviewers (Mathieu Rouault, Elyane Daniel ). The layout was made by Jean-François Cauche then by Raphael Himpe under the coordination of Amaury Van Espen who also added all the graphic elements. The English translation was made by François Boursin Asperti, Rodrigue Asseu, Xiao Xiao and Elizabeth Gilbert.
